Office Hours

Monday - Friday
7:00am - 3:30pm

New York State, the Office of Emergency Management and the New York State Guard are supplying us with a limited number of filled sandbags. The Town of Hamlin will not discriminate, however we are asking that these sandbags are distributed to people who are elderly and/or people that are physically challenged. Residents that are not able to fill and place their own bags. We are asking for help to locate these people and to care for them.

In conjunction with this, we are asking for volunteer groups and neighbors wanting to help. Please contact us. The Town will keep a list of those that need help placing bags and we will get those names and locations to the volunteers.

We are just starting this and details change frequently. There will be a limit to the number of sandbags per residence. Contact the Highway Dept. at 964-2640 for scheduling and if you have further questions. Thank you for your cooperation and help. Working together makes us stronger as a community.

There has been refinement and continued expediting of the permit process for erosion prevention and remediation. If you are in a position to have this type of work done to protect your residence, please contact Cheryl Pacelli our Building Inspector at 964-8181 for the most up to date information and permiting assistance.

As the high water continues, help each other to endure what is before us. We emplore each beachfront community to band together and strenghten your efforts.

The D.E.C has temporarily blocked off the entrance to the boat docks on Westphal Road due to unsafe conditions.  It will be opened again as soon as the D.E.C. says it is safe.

Spring Brush Pick up for the Town of Hamlin has now resumed. Thank you for your patience.

We are still delivering empty bags and bulk sand to those Hamlin Residents that call and request them.  Please call the Hamlin Highway Department at 964-2640 to request sandbags.

The National Guard has graciously come out to help us fill sandbags.  The Office of Emergency Management has supplied the sand bag machine and suggest we deliver the full bags to central locations at each lakefront.
The locations are:
The parking lot, north of Route 19 between Newco Drive and Sandy Harbor Drive.
The North end of Walker Lake Ontario Road by the guardrail.
The West end of West Wautoma Beach at the turn-around before Summer Haven Drive.
The North end of Westphal Drive by the guardrail.
The North end of Martin Road by the guardrail.
We ask that you respect your neighbors and only take a maximum of 200 bags.  We would also ask that you work together, help your neighbors. If someone is less able give them a hand to protect thier property. It benifits all to work together. This service will probably end on Friday, May 5 when another Town takes the shared machine.  Future Services will be decided and conveyed to the public as time goes on.
The Governor held a press confrence today, May 2. It will be on all the major news outlets but here are the most important points;
  • The Governor declared a state of emergency for the Shoreline.
  • The Governor asked the IJC for a water release and they rejected the request.
  • Equipment and materials are being gathered here in Monroe County for emergency rediness.
Thank You and Good Luck out there.
